A$AP Mob - Trillmatic (Explicit) ft. A$AP Nast, Method Man
Squarepusher “Dark Steering”
This video is ridiculously intense, visually. One set up, one main trick, the combo of backing LEDs with SP’s mask and stage LEDs. And yet, through well crafted camera work and quick as hell editing the video continues to deliver. I really didn’t get tired of it until about 3/4 in and there was still new material arriving. I’m impressed.
Not to mention Squarepusher’s been at it for so long and has been my favorite IDM producer forever. He never got AFX type exposure but dude has been killing it for all time, even if it hasn’t always been my favorite type of music over the years I still give major credit.

The video flyer I made for my party this Thursday reminded me to talk about the song and video I used. Both are absolutely amazing, for both mediums. Ciara “Ride” and Nas “The Don” are two of my favorite tracks and with Nas’ video just released for the track it blew me away. Both are spare in their own ways, Ciara in a studio and Nas flexing his power not through excessive asses and fake money but a video that plays more like a luxury brand commercial with slow b-roll of suits and eyeglasses, a chef cooking food. He’s separating himself from rappers that are living off their advances and saying I’ve been here, my money is real, I own this shit. Not that the video needs any explaining, it’s pretty in your face but the subtleties in the shots are really well crafted. And Ciara…well….Ciara just crushes it. She needs little more than some nice lights, stretch pants & a Braves cap and she can lay waste to nearly any other video out there. Well played, both of you.

I’m DJing this Thursday night at Enid’s in Williamsburg. I’m doing a party there every other week and it’s a break away from the house/club scene in the city. Lots of hip hop, dancehall, juke, early dubstep, some pop, new wave, punk, whatever goes really. Just good vibes and sweet friends.
